Each time a significant honors show nears, there’s always a clamor for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types successfully include numerous genres, making space possible for most games within them.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category that year
- Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often modest productions, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games globally and have been for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
