Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Schemers parties.

Fans can expect discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
